If you are like most pet owners, we know that you consider your pet's health just as important as your own. . .You know that taking care of your pet requires more than only annual vaccines. Since pets age at a much quicker rate than people do, they need to have more frequent examinations. The average dog or cat reaches "middle age" at about 4 years of age!! Before we may expect, potential illnesses may "sneak up" on our pets. Many of these diseases are the same ones that may affect humans, like heart disease, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and kidney disease! Because of this, we often have to look beyond the surface with bloodwork, urinalyses, and radiographs (x-rays) to fully understand our pets' health. Taking the best care of our pets is as much about prevention of disease as it is about treatment! Why is Wellness Testing so important??
A wellness exam allows us to achieve a health baseline to compare with any changes for the rest of your pet's life. Many pets that seem to have a normal physical examination actually are found to have some sort of underlying condition that could be detected by further testing!! When your pet receives regular wellness examinations over a lifetime, it aids your veterinarian to intercept potential diseases before the problem overtakes your pet's well-being and health. Many common diseases in pets are easily prevented and/or treated if the disorder is caught early enough. Through simple preventative measures, your pet's quality of life and the amount of time you are able to spend with you beloved pet are greatly increased!!! To better understand the importance of pet wellness exams, imagine having only been to your doctor four times by the time you are 40 years of age!
